How do we combat a pervasive foe? We surrender to the part of us that knows. Keep reading to learn how to effectively address rage and helplessness, so you can reclaim your spiritual energy and return to your place of power.
“I encountered a kind of rage I haven’t experienced before…”
This week, the US re-inaugurated a malignant narcissist and criminal into the White House and he has made quick work in administering destructive action. In these times of fear, we will find ourselves in our various fear and grief responses. For me, the past week has been accompanied by a lot of rage. In my somatic-based coaching practice, I’ve learned rage and anger teach us about our values, our boundaries, and what we hold dear (our anger usually knows even before we do).
But this past week, I encountered a kind of rage in myself that I haven’t experienced before.
I tried my usual tools. Somatic meditation. Exercise. Journaling.
I realized this rage was stemming from a perceived helplessness. A feeling of defeat and entrapment. As someone who has been working to free myself from the effects narcissistic abuse in my personal life for the past few years, to then realize our systems and society founded on white supremacy are steeped in narcissism, has been quite difficult to say the least. When you learn about the nature of narcissism, you can’t help but feel disgusted… and terrified.
To realize the extent to which the mind can depart from the Deeper Self… is terrifying.
Helplessness – Our Despair Over the Unreachable
The popular opinion in the field of psychology is that while narcissism exists on a spectrum and we can all learn to manage these tendencies towards control and manipulation, which are all options in our nervous system, once the mind is entrapped in the trance, there is no treatment.
Now, I suspect that there may be solutions that will arise in time, but for now, what are we to do with a collective of people who are victims to brainwashing, religious extremism, mental abuse, and potentially narcissistic themselves. Even those who may be reformed or healed must come to it by their own free will and choice, something we can speed up for our own comfort.
When we sit in the despair of trying to reach the unreachable, we are brought to our knees.
If you have an experience of narcissistic abuse or neglect during childhood, you know this feeling all too well. Reaching for the soul of the seemingly soulless.
Addressing Rage & Helplessness – Adjusting Our Thinking
And so this rage was not disappearing, it would subside and then, once triggered, return. Again and again, asking for me to find a solution.
So, I asked myself last night, what am I not seeing about this? How do I need to adjust my thinking?
And I knew I needed to adjust my thinking, because every time I tuned into my Deeper Self I would feel that still my Deeper Self remained whole, intact, and at peace... and waiting for me to join her, so we could take aligned action together. I just was not in the vibrational vicinity to receive this inspired action. In other words, there was something my Deeper Self knew, that I did not. There was something my stance of helplessness was not allowing me to see…
So, I resorted to a mental practice that has become a support during times of emotional upheaval and spiritual confusion. I began by looking at what I knew to be true: Yes, there are people in power and in the world who wish to do us harm. Yes, these people will not be persuaded through pleas for compassion. Yes, free will exists and so we all have a right to choose whether we lean in or away from Love. Narcissism is a choice.
Then, I felt that land.
Breaking Free From Helplessness: Regaining Our Power to Choose
Narcissism is a choice. A choice. What my rage has been asking me for was the freedom to choose again. I had so heavily bought into the story of helplessness in navigating these relationships and the world while trying to remain compassionate that I had forgotten, I get to choose.
You get to choose love and compassion and JOY. This isn’t a toxic positivity sugar-coat everything mindset. But a real, internal choice to choose where you give your spiritual energy.
Something clicked in me last night… and I felt jubilation welling up from within. I get to choose. I get to choose! We get to choose!! We are not imprisoned in the neuroses of supremacy, domination, and submission. Even “the most powerful man in the world,” has no power over our ability to choose where we rest our energy, focus, and weight.
Sit heavily into your soul. Sit heavily into your joy. Sit heavily into your compassionate heart. And collectively, we will tip the boat.
So, what choice are you making, Gorgeous Soul? Are you ready to take back your spiritual energy and focus it towards the wellbeing of yourself, your loved ones, and the world? No one can suck the life out of you, unless you give up your internal right to choose.
