So, mini-spoiler alert, you may not find what you’re expecting in this podcast. If you’ve been listening for a while, you know I’m not here for the endless lists of should’s and shouldn’t’s. I don’t care if your version of “Sex Goddess” or “wild woman” looks like mine.
I want you to access YOUR truth. Not mine.
And that’s why I’ve included a little body meditation in this episode to help you identify your own truth and wisdom around porn.
Honoring the life of George Floyd
This past weekend, protests and activism has been rising in light of the death of George Floyd. I’ve included a moment of reflection and embodiment at the start of this episode, because the truth is:
Racism isn’t just ideology. Racism has been deeply ingrained into our BODIES.
Becoming anti-racist isn’t going to require just reading books, but rewiring our brains and body’s automatic responses and biases that have been programmed into us.
While I invite you to feel the impact of racism on your body in this episode, this is NOT a quick fix. The little two minute practice I included aint gonna cut it, Goddess.
Posturing our hearts towards a better world, one where we look at black bodies and see creativity, royalty, gentleness, safety, magnificence… this will take a TOTAL shift. It won’t be enough to speak up once on social media when we’re in the thick of protest. It won’t be enough to post a little #BLM and check it off your to-do list.
This is a LIFE-LONG commitment to the elevation of compassion on this planet.
And the way you choose to protest, doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s. I protest every. single. day. When I show up for a dream that wasn’t possible for any woman before me, raising an unimaginable amount of children in poverty in rural Jamaica. I protest. When I wake up and I choose to be ALL of me, not just the “black” me or the “immigrant” me or the “oreo” me – when I give myself the freedom to be whatever the fuck I want to be. I protest. When I choose to feel, really really feel what’s alive in my body – the pain, the sorrow, the joy, the bliss, the pleasure. I protest.
Don’t shy away from the discomfort.
Lean in. Press in.
And you’re not gonna get rid of all your internalized racism or white privilege overnight. Remember, this is a life-long commitment and relearning. Go at your own pace. But remember, every single one of us is responsible for the world we live in.
